Impacts of extreme climate on Australia's green cover (2003–2018): A MODIS and mascon probe

چکیده
Australia as a continent represents semi-arid environment that is generally water-limited. Changes in rainfall pattern will inevitably occur due to rising temperatures caused by climate change, which has direct impact on the distribution of Australia's vegetation (green cover). As variability continues increase, i.e., frequency and/or magnitude, extreme events such droughts are predicted become more pervasive and severe have an adverse effect vegetation. This study investigates effects green cover during 2003–2018 for end rainy seasons April October northern southern parts, respectively, (i) determine state its changes, (ii) identify “hotspots”, regions constantly experienced statistically significant decrease NDVI, (iii), relate changes identified hotspots GRACE-hydrological changes. These achieved through exploitation statistical tools Principal Component Analysis (PCA) Mann-Kendel Test Gravity Recovery Climate Experiment (GRACE) hydrological products one hand, utilization product Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (MODIS-NDVI) used here with native spatial resolution 0.002413? × other hand. Differences between 3-year intervals from 2003 2018 both datasets quantify variations. Through area change analysis, differences (2003–2018) indicate exhibited larger increase (13.77% total area) than (7.83%) compared October, slightly (9.41%) (8.71%). South Western emerge “hotspots” decreased no noticeable April. GRACE-based reflect decreasing trend (2003–2009) increasing (2009–2012) peaks 2011, then transitions towards gradually after 2012. Australia-wide (ENSO IOD) influenced variations data period 2018.

متن کاملImpacts of Extreme Weather and Climate on Terrestrial Biota
Climate is a driver of biotic systems. It affects individual fitness, population dynamics, distribution and abundance of species, and ecosystem structure and function. Regional variation in climatic regimes creates selective pressures for the evolution of locally adapted physiologies, morphological adaptations (e.g., color patterns, surface textures, body shapes and sizes), and behavioral adapt...
متن کاملImpacts of climate change on extreme precipitation events in arid (Bandar Abbas) and semi-arid (Shahrekord) stations in Iran
The aim of this paper is to project extreme precipitation events in an arid and a semiarid station. In order to project climate change based on general circulation models (GCMs), we have applied LARS-WG[1] downscaling tool. This stochastic weather generator down-scaled the climate of two synoptic stations using HADCM3 model and A2 emission scenario for 2040. We extracted extreme precipitation e...
متن کاملImpacts of Land Cover and Seasonal Variation on Maximum Air Temperature Estimation Using MODIS Imagery
Daily maximum surface air temperature (Tamax) is a crucial factor for understanding complex land surface processes under rapid climate change. Remote detection of Tamax has widely relied on the empirical relationship between air temperature and land surface temperature (LST), a product derived from remote sensing. However, little is known about how such a relationship is affected by the high he...

This edited volume is devoted to the examination of the implications of the inevitable changes wrought by global change on the welfare and livelihoods of tens of millions of people who live in dryland regions. Global change is more than just climate change and the ramifications of changing trade patterns (geopolitical and economic aspects), the shift to the market economy, demographic factors (...
